Aquarion Water Co., which serves the Mystic and Stonington area locally, announced this week the completion of the purchase of United Water Connecticut Inc., serving Bethel, Brookfield, Newtown, New Milford and Woodbury.

Aquarion's water network now encompasses more than 625,000 people in 47 cities and towns in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

"We have been following a strategy of growth through acquisition with the goal of creating an integrated and unified system statewide," Aquarion President and CEO Charles V. Firlotte said in a statement.

In the past two years, Aquarion has purchased and integrated 56 Connecticut water systems into its portfolio.
