State trooper, two others injured in Sunday accident

Plainfield - The identity of the state trooper who sustained minor injuries Sunday when his police cruiser was struck by a pickup truck during a traffic stop on Interstate 395 was released by state police this morning.

Trooper Robert L. Desjardin, 48, was inside his cruiser and parked in the breakdown lane on the southbound side of I-395 when his Ford Crown Victoria was struck by a 2005 Chevy Colorado driven by Sean R. Cavanaugh, 23, of Quaker Hill, according state police at Troop D in Danielson.

The crash occurred at 7:23 p.m., north of exit 86.

Desjardin, Cavanaugh and Corey Hunt, 23, a passenger in Cavanaugh’s truck, were all taken by Plainfield ambulance to The William W. Backus Hospital’s Emergency Care Center in Plainfield.

Police said the accident remains under investigation.
