'Wings of Freedom Tour' with vintage WWII aircraft stops in Groton

Groton - WWII veteran Walter Limberger, of Ellington, who flew as a B-17 tail gunner during WWII, toured the Collings Foundation's Wings of Freedom Tour at Lanmar Aviation at Groton-New London Airport Monday.

The three vintage WWII military aircraft; a P-51C Mustang, a B-17G Flying Fortress and a B-24J Liberator operated by the Stow, Massachusetts based foundation, will be open for tours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday.

Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for children. WWII veterans may tour at no cost. Flight experiences in the B-17 and B-24 are $425 for a 30-minute flight. A 30-minute flight in the P-51 is $2200.
