New London — Police who were stationed in the "downtown entertainment district" responded to the municipal parking lots near Golden Street and Eugene O'Neill Drive after hearing what sounded like gunshots being fired.
Police quickly arrived at the scene and learned that a fight had broken out between several parties. During the fight, an unidentified man showed a handgun and fired several shots in an unknown direction, police said. The incident happened at 1:05 a.m.
The man and several people fled the area in a vehicle. Officers on patrol located the car a short time later and arrested two occupants.
Jeremy Taylor, 27, of 42 Garfield St., and Ariana Sanders, 24, of 5 Jonathan Law Court, Waterford, were each charged with second-degree breach of peace and interfering with police.
Officers also did not locate a firearm following the car stop and did not have any credible witnesses who could identify the gunman.
A short distance away from the vehicle stop a third participant in the fight was arrested. Police said Curtis Griffin, 27, of 11B Michael Road, was also wanted in Michigan for felony probation violations in connection with weapons arrest.
Griffin was charged with breach of peace and being a fugitive from justice.
Police at the original location of the incident did not locate a crime scene and no injuries were reported.
