An overnight storm with torrential downpours and high winds swept across the state Tuesday night, leaving thousands in the dark.

At the height of the storm, 30,000 Connecticut Light & Power customers were without power.

CL&P is reporting Thursday that 619 customers were without power. A spokesman for the utility company said power should be restored by noon.

The gusty winds knocked down tree limbs and wires. Local and state police said this morning that most roadways have since been cleared of debris and downed wires.

In Preston, Route 164 between Ross and Savage roads was closed this morning because of a downed tree.

The bulk of CL&P customers that were in the dark resided in Fairfield and Tolland counties.
