A 37-year-old Groton man was arraigned in New London Superior Court today on charges that he sexually assaulted a young girl over a period of seven years.
Town police arrested Scott Aronson of 10 Downer St. on Tuesday on charges of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the victim, now a teenager, recently disclosed that Aronson, who knew her family, had started molesting her when she was 9 years old. She said the incidents increased over the years and that when she threatened to tell an adult he told her “bad things will happen if you do.” She said she was so scared of Aronson that she slept with a knife under her pillow.
Confronted by police, Aronson admitted he had sexually assaulted the girl and given her money so that she would not tell.
At his arraignment, Judge John J. Nazzaro set Aronson’s bond at $250,000, ordered him to have no contact with the girl or her family and transferred the case to the court where major crimes are heard.
