Police seize weapon, drugs, cash in New London

New London – Police seized a loaded gun, heroin, steroids, narcotics and cash Wednesday afternoon when officers searched a Maple Avenue home.

After the 2:30 p.m. search, officers charged Robert Cabanban, 22, of 23 Maple Ave. with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to sell, possession of narcotics, operation of a drug factory and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Assisted by state police narcotic officers with a police K-9, the New London police department vice unit and detective division executed a search warrant at the home and seized the drugs, including 12.5 grams of heroin, a vial of steroids, various narcotic pills and a loaded .38 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Police said Cabanban returned home during the search and fled in his vehicle once he saw the officers. Police arrested him on Linden Street and seized $6,200 in cash.

Cabanban is held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Cabanban has various criminal convictions, including for third-degree burglary, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance, interfering with an officer and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He has several drug-related charges from November 2011 pending in court.
