Coast Guard Academy quarterback Jon Resch was named the New England Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week Sunday.
In three quarters Saturday, the senior completed 27 of 37 passes for 391 yards and three touchdowns and scored on a 1-yard run in a 59-0 win over Fitchburg State. All four touchdowns came in the third quarter. He also threw the longest touchdown pass in school history (96 yards). Freshman linebacker Kyle Wood was also named to the defensive honor roll. He had seven tackles and two sacks in his first career start.
• The Connecticut College coed team finished sixth in the 20-team Danmark Trophy Regatta on the Thames River. Brown won with a score of 119 and Conn had 144 points.
Skipper Kevin Martland and Kim Bolick were fifth in the A Division with 75 and skipper Pearson Potts along with Steph Kapinos and Grace Medley were fifth in the B Division with 69.
H.S. boys' soccer
• Alex Paterson scored twice in the second half as Ledyard beat New London 2-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division game Saturday. Christof Wegiel and Anthony Saccone had assists and Jason Smith made two saves for Ledyard (5-1, 3-0). Jose Roman made 10 saves for New London (0-6, 0-4).
College women's soccer
• Notre Dame scored three goals in the second half, pulling away for a 4-0 win over UConn in a Big East Conference game. UConn is 5-1, 3-3.
St. Bernard hires Jones
• Former Norwich Free Academy standout Mark Jones was named the boys' basketball coach at St. Bernard, it was announced by St. Bernard athletic director Brendan Case.
