Not being able to see the forest for the trees seems far more common than one might think. Take for example the tax the rich mentality that permeates society of late. To sharpen our focus, let us look at a story of a big-hearted neighbor. In the neighborhood there is a man who owns two cars, and also there is a man who has no car. In an attempt to help the poor, Mr. Big heart steals one of the cars and gives it to the poor man. What would happen to Mr. Big Heart? If you said he would be arrested, you would be right. When the government does it, it is worse because the man who had two cars can't get his property back. The government should not be allowed to do anything that an individual could not do. In his book "The 5000 Year Leap," W. Cleon Skousen writes, "The founders recognized that the people cannot delegate to their government the power to do anything except that which they have the lawful right to do themselves."

The right to own property is the right upon which all other rights are balanced.
