Groton - The Navy in the region will celebrate the service's 237th birthday Oct. 12 at the Historic Ship Nautilus and Submarine Force Museum.

The guest speaker is scheduled to be Marc Wortman, author of "The Millionaires' Unit," the story of what is considered the first Naval Air Reserve Unit, established at Yale University just prior to the United States entering World War I.

The celebration included a ceremonial bell ringing, cake cutting, colors presented by the Silver Dolphin Color Guard from the Naval Submarine School and music by the West Side Middle School Band.
