Old Lyme - A former assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for the West Hartford public school system has been named the new executive director for LEARN.

Eileen Howley will start in December and will work with schools, students, families, and community agencies to promote regional and statewide initiatives and collaboration while providing a framework, resources and support for districts to achieve their goals, according to a LEARN press release.

Prior to her career in West Hartford, which began in 2009, Howley also served as the assistant superintendent and interim superintendent of Farmington Public Schools.

While in West Hartford, Howley developed the plan for the shift to Common Core State Standards and worked with teachers and leaders to begin the process of redesigning West Hartford's system for educator evaluation and development.
