UConn students to be IRS agents for a day

Twenty-five University of Connecticut students will get to try on the guise of an IRS criminal investigator today when they help solve real-world fraud cases involving drugs, money laundering and tax fraud.

Honorary special agents will conduct interviews, review financial documents, perform surveillance, carry out undercover operations, execute search warrants, and testify before a grand jury - all on UConn's Storrs campus.

IRS criminal investigators from across the region will serve as coaches and will play the roles of bad guys, informants and witnesses. A criminal investigator playing the role of the U.S. magistrate will question students before authorizing their search warrants.
