New London courts still in the dark

The courthouses on Huntington and Broad streets in New London will remain closed Thursday.

Power had not yet been restored to the buildings as of Wednesday afternoon, and officials could not provide an estimate as to when electricity would be restored.

In the meantime, arraignments of newly-charged defendants in criminal cases from the area are being handled at the GA21 courthouse in Norwich. Those who need to apply for domestic violence restraining orders should go to the civil clerk’s office at the Norwich courthouse.

Emmet L. Cosgrove, administrative judge for the judicial district, said the courthouses are equipped with generators but they are not sufficient to open the buildings to the public.
