Train service is beginning to be restored following Hurricane Sandy.

Shore Line East train service will resume Thursday morning but no connections will be available west of New Haven and there may be delays.

Metro-North Railroad is beginning to provide limited service this afternoon. The railroad is still working to restore power and clear debris on the New Haven and Hudson lines and no estimate was given for when the system will be restored to full service.

Amtrak announced today it will provide modified Northeast Regional service between Boston and New Haven and between Newark, N.J., and points south on Thursday. Amtrak also will operate shuttle service trains between Springfield, Mass., and New Haven, along with additional overnight services to and from the northeast.

Amtrak continues to pump water from tunnels to repair the tracks, signal and power systems under the Hudson and East rivers and to restore service to and from Penn Station in New York City. There will be modified service to and from New York City on Friday; that schedule will be announced Thursday.

There will be no Northeast Regional service between Newark and New Haven and no Acela Express in the northeast on Thursday. Ticketed passengers can request a refund or voucher for future travel. Some tickets booked online that have not been printed can be modified or canceled on Amtrak.com.
