Although the dates have shifted once again due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy, the Eastern Connecticut Conference will hold its soccer and volleyball tournaments as planned, the league's athletic directors announced after holding an emergency meeting Friday morning.
The three tournaments will begin or continue - volleyball had already played qualifying-round games - on Saturday.
Volleyball will hold its quarterfinals at 3 p.m. Saturday, with No. 1 East Lyme hosting No. 8 Norwich Free Academy, No. 5 Ledyard at No. 4 Fitch, No. 7 Montville at No. 2 Woodstock Academy and No. 3 Lyman Memorial hosting No. 6 Plainfield. Griswold will host the semifinals (Monday, Nov. 5 at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.) and final (Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m.)
The boys' and girls' soccer tournaments will hold first-round games on Saturday and semifinals on Monday, Nov. 5 with Montville and Waterford hosting the games. Both finals are Tuesday, Nov. 6 at Montville, with the boys playing at 4:30 p.m. and the girls following at 6:30.
On Saturday in boys' soccer, both games are at 6:30 p.m., with No. 5 NFA playing No. 4 Ledyard at Montville and No. 6 Waterford hosting No. 3 Killingly. The two semifinals on Monday begin at 4:30 p.m., with No. 1 Bacon Academy playing the Ledyard-NFA winner at Waterford and No. 2 Montville hosting the Killingly-Waterford winner.
On Saturday in girls' soccer, both games are at 4:30 p.m., with No. 5 Lyman Memorial playing No. 4 Stonington at Montville and No. 3 Waterford hosting No. 6 Griswold. The two semifinals on Monday begin at 6:30 p.m., with No. 1 East Lyme playing the Stonington-Lyman winner at Montville and No. 2 St. Bernard playing the Griswold-Waterford winner at Waterford.
The ECC also announced it is moving back its girls' diving championships - scheduled for today - to Monday, Nov. 5 at East Lyme. The competition begins at 4:30 p.m. The girls' swimming championships will be held as originally scheduled, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, at the UConn-Avery Point pool.
There were two additional changes for ECC football games. The East Lyme-Woodstock Academy game at Waterford was moved from Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday and the Waterford at Windham game was changed from Saturday to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5.
Old Lyme also had two Shoreline Conference tournaments rescheduled. The girls' soccer team hosts Haddam-Killingworth at 1 p.m. Saturday and the volleyball team is at Haddam-Killingworth at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Norwich Tech volleyball team hosts Kaynor Tech of Waterbury at 4 p.m. today in a Constitution State Conference tournament quarterfinal.
