    Four classes graduate from Naval Submarine School

    Groton — Four classes recently graduated from the Naval Submarine School.

    Twenty-three sailors, “Class 14RO-12-7,” graduated from Submarine Communications Electronic Rating Field Apprentice Course Oct. 29. Seaman Thomas Sawicki was the class honorman. Seaman Apprentice Arthur Bishop was meritoriously advanced and Seaman Apprentice Curtis Barry was recognized for Personal Excellence.

    Eighty-seven sailors, “Class 12460,” USS Grayling (SSN-646), graduated from Basic Enlisted Submarine School Oct. 19. Seaman Apprentice Dylan Yager, the class honorman, was meritoriously advanced. Seaman Antonio Rosales received the Navy Core Values Award and Fireman Apprentice Andre Robinson, the class leader, received the Heritage Award.

    Seaman Apprentice Justin Durnil, Electronics Technician First Class Alvin Larkins, Seaman Dane Goff, Seaman Jordan Lewis, Seaman Apprentice Gabriel Ramos, Fireman Recruit Fernando Espinoza, Fireman Apprentice Gregory Esters, Fireman Apprentice Alexander Hogan, Gas Turbine Systems Technician First Class James West, Gas Turbine Systems Technician Second Class Casey Smith, Aircraft Structural Mechanic Second Class Ian Swenson, Aircraft Structural Mechanic First Class Tory Scott, Aircraft Structural Mechanic First Class Douglass Waschak, Seaman Joshua Obregon, Seaman Paul Davis, Machinist Mate Third Class Joseph Patten and Rosales were graduates with distinction.

    Seventeen students, “Class 12040,” Submarine Officer Advanced Course, and 73 students, “Class 12060,” Submarine Officer Basic Course, graduated in joint ceremonies Oct. 19. Retired Vice Adm. Albert Konetzni addressed the graduates.

    For the advanced course, Lt. David Yocum, the course honorman, received the L. Y. Spear Award. Lt. Robert Low received the David Lloyd Award for Excellence. Lt. Dana Gilmour received the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Award. Both Yocum and Low were named distinguished graduates. Lt. William Hotchkiss received the outstanding instructor award.

    For the basic course, Ensign Conrad Kusel, the course honorman, received the L. Y. Spear Award. Lt. j.g. Joseph Daniel received the Admiral Andrew I. McKee Award. Ensign Daniel Gesch received the Naval Submarine League Fire Control Excellence Award. Lt. John Chester received the outstanding instructor award.
