East Lyme wins 13th straight ECC title in girls' swimming

Groton — Melinda Wei won the 100-yard breaststroke, helping lift the East Lyme High School girls’ swimming team to its 13th straight Eastern Connecticut Conference championship Saturday at UConn-Avery Point.

The scoring will not be complete until Monday afternoon’s diving event, but East Lyme finished Saturday with 502.5 points. Fitch, second with 327.5 points after sweeping the three relays, does not have any divers competing. Waterford is third with 296.

Waterford sophomore Asia Langley was named Swimmer of the Meet after winning the 50 freestyle in a meet record 24.08 seconds and taking the 100 butterfly in 1:01.22.

Ledyard’s Jessica Hespeler was also a double-winner individually, setting meet records in winning the 200 individual medley (2:11.42) and the 100 freestyle (52.99).
