New Horizons Band to perform at Acton Public Library

New Horizons Band of the Valley Shore to perform in Old Saybrook

Enjoy an afternoon of music at the Acton Public Library on Sunday, November 18th. The New Horizons Band of the Valley Shore will be performing a varied program for your entertainment. A program of the Community Music School of Centerbrook, the band is made up of musicians ranging in age from 60 – 90, many of whom are new to their instruments. While the Community Music School’s band started in 2009, the New Horizons music program was introduced in Rochester, New York in 1991 by Roy Ernst of Eastman Conservatory. The bands, choruses and orchestras provide an opportunity for adults who want to play music after not playing for many years, or who want to try something new. There are about 150 New Horizons musical groups throughout the United States and Canada. Membership is open to any adults who wish to participate. The Community Music School’s band rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., at the Centerbrook site. The group is not a competitive organization, and auditions are not held. Everyone is supportive and encouraging, and there is always room for new beginners. The joy is in making music together.

The program at the Acton Public Library will begin at 4 p.m., and will include a variety of musical styles, including marches, film music and jazz. The library is located at 60 Old Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook. Call the library for information: 860-395-3184, or check our website: www.actonlibrary.org.
