WHO: Jane

AGENCY: The Salvation Army, New London

HER SITUATION: Jane is a single mother who works part time and attends school. She came to the Salvation Army seeking assistance with replacing food after Hurricane Sandy. At that time, organization staff told her she should apply for its Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance programs. Even with her job, she said, she still struggles every day to provide for her daughter's basic needs.

WHAT TO GIVE: Gift cards to Shop & Stop, T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. Her daughter would love to see The Nutcracker, and has asked for Barbie dolls, a fortune cookie maker, dress-up items and a jewelry maker. The daughter wears size large tops and size 10 1/2 pants.

TO DONATE: Donations can be mailed or delivered to: The Salvation Army, 11 Governor Winthrop Blvd., New London, CT 06320. For information, call (860) 443-6409.
