The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation this week donated $20,000 to the state chapter of the American Diabetes Association and $20,000 to the Joslin Diabetes Center and its local affiliate, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
The money was raised during the tribe's 7th Annual Drive for Diabetes, a charity golf event held in September at Lake of Isles, the tribe's golf course.
The tribe hosted a check-presentation ceremony Tuesday at Lake of Isles. It marked the fourth year that proceeds from the event have been donated to the American Diabetes Association and the third year the Joslin Diabetes Center has been a recipient.
Rodney Butler, chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Council, and Richard E. Sebastian, a former councilor, founded the event and remain its co-chairmen.
Joining Butler and Sebastian at the ceremony were Chris Boynton, executive director of the American Diabetes Association, and William Stanley, L&M's vice president of development and community relations.
