Norwich — The Occum Volunteer Fire Department responded to a small fire at the Norwichtown Pet Resort & Spa Saturday morning and quickly extinguished the blaze, according to Fire Chief Robert Patton.

The department was called to the kennel at 763 Scotland Road around 10 a.m. The pets had already been evacuated by the staff, Patton said. There were no injuries and only minor damage to the structure.

The fire was under control within 10 to 15 minutes, he added. Patton said he didn’t know what caused the fire. The Norwich fire marshal is investigating.

The Yantic and Taftville fire departments also responded, along with tankers for water from Baltic, Lisbon and East Great Plains.
