Dave Matthews Band gives Mohegan Sun concert
LeRoi Moore, the masterful multi-instrumentalist for the Dave Matthews Band, died during the recording of their 2009 release, "Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King." Not surprisingly, that album is haunted on a lot of levels - and that's not a bad thing.
It was assuredly a healing period, then, when the DMB took a few years before making a new record. "Away From the World," released in September, is a bit of a sonic return to the group's earliest albums. For one, they've reunited with original producer Steve Lillywhite. For another, there's something comforting, after tragedy, to marinate a bit in the past.
The band is out on tour in support of "Away From the World" and will hit the Mohegan Sun Arena stage on Saturday. Expect a reliance on new material with a generous sprinkling of the back catalog. Reggae immortal Jimmy Cliff opens and might well show up during Matthews' set.
