Calvary Church and Music School in Stonington Host 13th Annual Messiah Sit and Sing with Internationally Acclaimed Organist, Guest Conductor and Soloists
One of the Christmas season's most treasured traditions, Handel's Messiah, will be presented by Calvary Church, Episcopal and Calvary Music School on Saturday, December 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. Guest conductor Sara Marks and Calvary Church organist and choirmaster Joseph Ripka will lead soloists Paul Fletcher (baritone), Robert Guarino (Tenor), Margaret Tyler (Alto), Adele Paxton (Soprano), Calvary choristers and guests in the 13th annual Messiah Sit and Sing.
The community is invited to be part of the audience or chorus in this unique event. It's also an opportunity to meet and hear Calvary Church and Music School's new organist and choirmaster Joseph Ripka. He is recognized as one of today's finest young organ talents and winner of the 2008 Dublin International Organ Competition. Ripka has performed with The New World Symphony, Boston Philharmonic, and Boston Symphony Orchestra under conductors Michael Tilson Thomas, Benjamin Zander, and Alan Gilbert. His recitals have been aired on American Public Media's Pipedreams.
Guest conductor Sara Marks is director of choirs and adjunct professor of music history at SUNY Purchase College Conservatory of Music. She is also assistant conductor of the New Haven Chorale. The soloists for Handel's Messiah include four professional singers known both locally and regionally for their inspired performances. This event is the only annual performance of Handel's Messiah in coastal Connecticut and Rhode Island. Calvary Church, Episcopal is located in the village of Stonington, Connecticut at 27 Church Street. The free event begins at 7:00pm with a reception following.
