Gov. Dannel P. Malloy explained that we'd been visited by "evil." If I could please and respectfully object? I think of "evil" as a supernatural malevolence that, by definition, allows no explanation or remedy.
Something evil thereby becomes something we can't hope to even try to understand or prevent. I worry then, that to call this evil is to admit of being the victim of a kind of satanic miracle that we poor mortals can only hopelessly and powerlessly accept.
The hope lies in believing that there will be explanations pointing directly at our neglected responsibilities for the mentally ill and especially at our lack of courage to stand up to the NRA.
