AFSCME Local 2663, representing nearly 2,500 state employees in human and social services, donated $1,250 to Connecticut Food Bank in East Haven.

“In the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy, families are still trying to stabilize, so we are grateful for the generous support of AFSCME Local 2663 union members,” said Connecticut Food Bank Chief Development Officer Janet Kniffin. “The union’s gift will translate into more than 3,700 meals for people in need not only during the holidays, but throughout the year.”

Every year, AFSCME Local 2663 donates the proceeds from its annual membership picnic to a local non-profit organization. This is the fourth straight year the union has selected Connecticut Food Bank.

“Our union members are proud to support the Connecticut Food Bank,’” said Local 2663 President Paul Lavallee. “The workers we represent are out in the field every day, providing services to people who are struggling economically and dealing with food insecurity. Thank goodness for the Connecticut Food Bank.”

Connecticut Food Bank is the largest centralized source of donated, emergency food in Connecticut, providing food products to more than 600 soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries and daycare programs in Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, and Windham counties.
