John "Tatush" Torunski, 90, of New London, receives a kiss from granddaughter Kristen Longhenry of New York during a celebration with friends and family members at a surprise birthday party for him Sunday at the Turner-Tinker American Legion Post 128 in Niantic. Torunski turned 90 on Dec. 27. He spent two years of his life in concentration camps, including Auschwitz, during World War II. For 10 years he was Santa Claus at the New London Mall.
