Stonington road rage incident results in two arrests

Stonington — Police said a road rage incident involving three cars carrying seven people Saturday night at Stonington Cinemas, resulted in a North Stonington man smashing out the window of a car which had just run over his foot.

Police said the incident began just past 7 p.m.,. when a car driven by Luke R. Caswell, 20, of 31 Yawbux Valley Road, North Stonington was heading south on Route 2 when it approached a car carrying Todd O. Wilcox, 47, of 542 Liberty St., Pawcatuck, which was stopped at the traffic light to make a left turn into the theater. Caswell had a woman in the car while Wilcox’s wife was driving with him and two children as passengers.

At that point, police said Caswell drove into the northbound lane, and made a left into the theater in front of the Wilcox car.

The Wilcox car then pursued Caswell into the lot and there was a confrontation between the two men. Caswell drove off but was blocked in by the Wilcox car and an SUV driven by a Rhode Island woman who police say had no connection to either man.

Caswell then tried to drive off and ran over Wilcox’s foot. Police said Wilcox then smashed out a window in the Caswell car which was owned by the woman who was his passenger.

Wilcox, who was charged with breach of peace and second-degree criminal mischief, refused treatment at the scene. Caswell was charged with reckless driving, breach of peace and possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana. The Rhode Island woman was not charged.

State judicial department records show that Wilcox is currently on two years probation in connection with a 2012 conviction for cruelty to animals. He served 30 days in prison with the rest of the one year sentence suspended. He also served one year in prison term for a 2003 drunk driving conviction. Caswell has pending larceny charges against him in Rhode Island.
