Frontcourt recruit commits to UConn

Recruit Amida Brimah informed the UConn coaching staff Sunday night that he wants to be a Husky.

Brimah, a promising 6-foot-11, 210-pound center from Miami, gave a verbal commitment. He tweeted the news on Monday.

"I will be playing college basketball at the University of Connecticut#blessed," Brimah wrote.

UConn targeted Brimah, who attends Archbishop Carroll High School in Miami, during the recruiting process and made signing him a priority. He's considered a strong shot blocker but unpolished offensively.

Brimah, a native of Ghana, arrived in Connecticut Saturday night for an official visit. He'll attend UConn's game against Louisville tonight at the XL Center in Hartford.

He's the first recruit to commit to UConn since first-year coach Kevin Ollie signed a five-year contract in late December.

Brimah is the third member of next season's incoming recruiting class, joining guard Terrence Samuels ofSouth Shore High School in Brooklyn and forward Kentan Facey, a 6-9 forward from Long Island Lutheran.

Another frontcourt recruit will be in attendance tonight. Paschal Chukwa, a 7-footer from Fairfield Prep, will sit behind the UConn bench. He's a member of the Class of 2014.

In other news, Louisville moved to No. 1 in Monday's Associated Press top 25 poll.

The last time UConn faced a top ranked team it beat Texas, 88-74, in January 2010 in Storrs.

Also, junior Shabazz Napier was named to the weekly Big East honor roll.
