Ledyard — The Town Council voted Wednesday night to join a program through its membership with the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities that will offer prescription discount cards to all Ledyard residents.

The town will join 42 other Connecticut towns already signed up for the program, including Montville, Madison and Westbrook. The card, administered by ProAct, Inc. — a New York-based pharmacy benefit management company — will provide residents with an average of a 45 percent discount on prescription medications.

Other discounts include eye exams, prescription frames and lenses, LASIK surgery and hearing products and services.

Mayor John Rodolico said he expects to sign the contract with ProAct this week, and the program would be implemented in five to seven weeks. Cards will be mailed to all Ledyard residents, with extras available through Social Services at Town Hall and the Senior Center.
