The Guilford Fund for Education (GFFE) will hold its 7th annual Adult Spelling Bee on Friday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Guilford High School Auditorium. Teams comprised of 3 adults “spell-it-out” to take home the coveted "Best of the Hive" trophy, as well as bragging rights for the year.
Darren Kramer of WTNH News Channel 8 will return as celebrity emcee for the event, engaging the audience with his good humor and even better enunciation.
Businesses, nonprofits, friends, neighbors, school groups, politicians and all others are encouraged to create a team to join the challenge and the fun. “The BEE is a great way to promote your business or civic group, as well as let the community know you support education in Guilford,” says BEE co-chair Brenda Gorman. “We also have lots of teams of friends participate, who themselves love the event and supporting the GFFE.” The team entry (contribution) fee is $225 ($200 if registered before March 1, 2013).
BEE competition can be fierce, as can the vying for prizes in such various categories as best costume, best team name and most spirited. Audience members can also participate and be eligible for prizes. The Bee is free and open to the public; all proceeds support the work of the Guilford Fund for Education, a nonprofit group committed to fostering innovation and excellence in learning for ALL Guilford students through its grant program.
Businesses and citizens can also support the event by becoming a Bee Sponsor, and volunteers are also needed to help at the event. Register now, and find out more information, at www.gffe.org. For questions email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the BEE hotline, 203-671-4773.
