A bomb threat at Old Saybrook Middle School led to the evacuation of students to Old Saybrook High School to continue the school day.

Connecticut State Police bomb technicians long with the Old Saybrook Police Department have finished searching the middle school and deemed the school safe.

The building will remain closed as Old Saybrook Police conducts its investigation of the bomb threat.

"The kids are safe and there is no need to pick them up," said Old Saybrook Police Lieutenant Kevin Roche in a news release. "If you feel better picking up your middle school students, you are welcome to do so, but there will be a delay releasing them as accountability and safety are the number one priority."

Police said the students will have lunch there and will be picked up by buses at their normal time for transportation home. The school will open after hours for pickup of personal belongings, according to police.
