Mystic - UnitedHealthcare has donated 12 new wheelchairs worth more than $25,000 to Mystic Aquarium. The aquarium will make the six standard wheelchairs, four heavy-duty wheelchairs, one standard electric chair and one heavy-duty electric chair available to guests on a complimentary basis.

Mystic Aquarium sought assistance from UnitedHealthcare when the aquarium's older wheelchairs were no longer usable.

"This is the first time that Mystic Aquarium has had a brand new fleet of wheelchairs," said Peter Glankoff, the aquarium's executive vice president. "In the past, new or used wheelchairs were donated one or two at a time, and they often required repairs. UnitedHealthcare's generous donation will ensure our guests' comfort and safety for years to come. We are grateful for their support."

Groton's Fort Hill Pharmacy and Niantic's National Seating and Mobility provided the new wheelchairs at more than 50 percent off retail value.
