Plane makes emergency landing in Groton

Groton — A twin engine Piper Comanche had to make an emergency landing Monday morning at the Groton-New London Airport.

John Wallace, director of communication at the Connecticut Airport Authority, said an initial distress call was made at 8:51 a.m. after the aircraft had lost use of one of its engines.

The plane landed safely at 9 a.m. Wallace said emergency personnel were on standby.

Wallace said because the plane is a general aviation aircraft it is not required to file a flight plan. He said he did not know where the plane was coming from or heading to.

Airport officials said four people were on board. No injuries were reported.
