Commanding officer of USS New Mexico visits namesake state

Groton — The commanding officer and chief of the boat of the USS New Mexico visited the submarine’s namesake state, Jan. 29 to 31, in honor of the ship’s commissioning nearly three years ago.

Cmdr. George Perez and Master Chief Electronics Technician Steven Fritzler met New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, members of the USS New Mexico Committee and members of the New Mexico Navy League.

Perez said that as the New Mexico (SSN 779) prepares to depart on its maiden deployment, “it is important for us to personally convey to our namesake state and the New Mexico Committee just how much the crew appreciates their support.”
