Tricia Walsh of Mystic, daughter of former Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce leader Linnea Lindstrom, has been chosen to replace Tricia Cunningham as the new president of the regional business group, the organization announced Monday.

The 31-year-old Walsh, the director of membership and communications at the chamber, said her first order of business will be to introduce herself to the community.

"I'll be reaching out, making some new contacts," Walsh said in a phone interview.

Walsh, with a staff of three and a half positions, will assume her new role after Cunningham steps down Feb. 21. A going-away party for Cunningham will be held the day before at the Mystic Marriott.

Walsh has been with the chamber for six years, arriving as manager of membership and operations. She has a bachelor's degree in business management from Eastern Connecticut State University and previously had been a retail manager in the wine and liquor industry.

"(Walsh) has worked very hard for the chamber in her position as director of membership and will bring that perspective into her new role," Jim Bates, president of the Mystic organization's board, said in a statement. "In addition, she brings a level of enthusiasm and creativity that will only benefit our members."

Walsh said that one of her initiatives at the 760-member chamber has been to bring new businesses into the fold. A membership drive last year - first ever for the chamber - brought in 30 new businesses in one day, she said.

"These days, it's also really important to be focusing on retention efforts," Walsh said.

Walsh will fill the shoes of Cunningham, who announced last month that she is taking a position as director of development at Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut in Groton starting in March.

"Tricia Cunningham has been a great mentor and leader," Walsh said in a statement. "I am grateful for the experience of working with her and happy to continue in her place."
