    Cancellations in region begin as storm approaches

    COLCHESTER

    Schools are closed Friday.

    EAST LYME

    Schools are closed Friday and there will be no after-school activities. East Lyme Public Schools offices will remain open, according to the district's website.

    GROTON

    Schools are closed Friday.

    Saturday's annual Quahog Bowl regional ocean sciences academic competition is postponed to March 2 at the University of Connecticut's Avery Point campus.

    LEDYARD

    Schools are closed Friday.

    Transfer station will be closed Saturday.

    LYME

    Lyme-Old Lyme schools are closed Friday.

    Town Hall will close at noon Friday. In a message on the town website, First Selectman Ralph Eno asked residents to remain off local roads during the storm if possible both for safety reasons and to allow the town crew to clear the roads.

    MONTVILLE

    Schools are closed Friday.

    NEW LONDON

    All municipal offices and schools will be closed Friday. Only city employees needed for storm response have been directed to work.

    The public library is closed, too. All events Friday through Sunday at the Custom House Maritime Museum have been canceled.

    Trash and recycling pickup scheduled for Friday has been suspended until next week.

    A parking ban is in effect in New London. No parking is allowed on any downtown city streets, but free parking is available in the Water Street Garage. In the rest of the city, residents must park on the even-numbered side of the street. On streets with one-sided parking, follow posted signs.

    The city will partial activate at 9 a.m. Friday an Emergency Operations Center at the public works headquarters, 111 Union St. In the event of a state of emergency declaration, a full EOC will open, the mayor's office announced in a news release.

    Mitchell College will be closed Friday and Saturday.

    NORTH STONINGTON

    The tansfer station will be closed Friday and Saturday.

    NORWICH

    Friday garbage and recycling collection will occur earlier than normal. Customers on Friday collection schedules should put garbage and recyclables curbside Thursday.

    The Rogers Road Transfer Station will be closed Saturday and will reopen on Monday.

    OLD LYME

    Lyme-Old Lyme schools are closed Friday.

    The town's Emergency Operations Center is monitoring weather conditions. Updates will be posted on the town's website and Emergency Management's Facebook and Twitter feeds.OLD SAYBROOK

    If the storm arrives, the transfer station will be closed Saturday.

    STONINGTON

    Schools have been canceled for Friday.

    Office hours originally scheduled for Saturday by state Sen. Andrew Maynard and state Rep. Diana Urban at the Stonington Police Department has been postponed. A new date and time have not yet been set.

    STATE

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy has announced that nonessential state employees should stay home Friday. But evening and midnight shift employees should report to work as normal on Friday.
