    Respite center opens at Lymes' Senior Center

    Old Lyme -- A respite center is open at the Lymes' Senior Center on Town Woods Road. Hot meals, Wi-Fi access and restrooms will be provided, according to an town press release.

    The regional shelter at the East Lyme Middle School on Society Road in East Lyme is also open.

    Town plow crews and contractors are plowing roads and working in the areas of Mile Creek Road, Shore Road, Rogers Lake and Lyme Street, according to the release.

    As of 10 a.m., 3727 residents remained without power.

    "We have many line crews in town working on restoration. While we still do not have restoration estimates, we expect to make headway today," the release stated.

    Residents needing help or transportation to the shelter should call the Emergency Operations Call Center at (860) 598-0120.

    Town officials are urging residents to avoid downed power lines and call CL&P at (800) 286-2000 to report outages.

    Officials also remind residents to clear snow from vents at their home, since the "blocked vents create a significant risk for carbon monoxide," according to the release.

    "Residents using generators or supplemental heating devices need o make sure they are also correctly ventilated outside of the home," the release added. "Please use extreme caution when shoveling and clearing snow from driveways and walkways. Pacing yourself by doing a little at a time will help avoid injuries."
