Norwich — A 4-year-old boy missing since Wednesday was found safe Thursday in Maine, and his mother, who police say abducted the boy, was arrested.
Yahquin Warren was taken Wednesday from his grandparents’ residence at 24 Merchants Ave. in Taftville by his mother, 35-year-old Keyett McDonald, police said. The child was reported absent Wednesday from a Samuel Huntington School Day Program in Norwich, and McDonald was last reported seen around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in New London.
Police learned Thursday that McDonald had fled to Maine with Yahquin. Maine State Police and the FBI found the boy safe about 8 p.m. Thursday night at a home in Auburn, Maine. McDonald was charged in Maine as a fugitive from justice and has pending charges in Connecticut.
Yahquin is in the custody of the state Department of Children and Families with guardianship granted to his grandparents, police said. State court records show McDonald has pending drug and motor vehicle cases and has a conviction for attempted larceny. She had previously lost custody of her son.
