NFA upsets Bacon Academy to win ECC girls' hoops title

Norwich — Olivia Marks had 15 points and was named tournament MVP as third-seeded Norwich Free Academy upset top-seeded Bacon Academy in overtime Friday, 41-39, to successfully defend its Eastern Connecticut Conference girls' basketball championship at Alumni Gym.

It was the Wildcats' 14th ECC championship in 20 seasons under head coach Bill Scarlata.

Alyssa Velles had nine points and nine rebounds for NFA (17-5). She and Maya Bell were also named to the all-tournament team.

Carlee Putnam had 14 points for the Bobcats (21-2) and Taylor McLaughlin scored 11.
