UPDATED: Two injured in MGM Grand valet crash

Mashantucket — A valet at Foxwoods Resort Casino was seriously injured Saturday night at MGM Grand at Foxwoods and remained hospitalized in stable condition Monday, according to a Foxwoods spokeswoman.

Gianni Chighine, 44, was struck by a car driven by another valet about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, according to state police. He was taken to Backus Hospital and then to Rhode Island Hospital with what police described as “incapacitating’ injuries. Police did not provide an address for Chignhine

Valet Jose Carmona, 32, of New London, was trying to move a 2008 Jeep Cherokee which was equipped, for medical reasons according to police, with a left gas pedal. He lost control of the car hitting Chighine and then a concrete wall.

The car crashed into the casino, damaging the gift shop, Grand Effects, sources said. A portion of the store was closed off behind a curtain Monday.

Carmona was treated at Backus Hospital for minor injuries, police said.
