The political cartoon Feb. 27 was unequivocally offensive. It is no surprise that Catholic theology and practice is too conservative for popular cultural tastes. Islamic theology and practice is also conservative but, in the smug certainty of progressive diversity, is considered acceptable and beyond critical comment. Cartoons critical of Islam would never be published. This disparity leads me to conclude that anti-Catholic bigotry appears to be acceptable and encouraged in progressive media. I thought that the election of John Kennedy in 1960 put an end to this but I have been proven wrong.
