    Navy names new commander for Sub Group Two

    Groton — Rear Adm. Kenneth M. Perry will be the new commander of Submarine Group Two, the Navy announced Friday.

    Rear Adm. Richard P. Breckenridge, the current commander of the group, has been assigned to serve as the director of the Undersea Warfare Division in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon. Breckenridge has led the group since August 2011.

    Perry is currently the vice commander of the Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command in San Diego, Calif. He is responsible for operational control of air, surface and underwater mine countermeasures forces.

    A career submarine officer, Perry has conducted special missions on board the USS Spadefish and USS Indianapolis and strategic deterrent patrols on board the USS Nebraska and USS Pennsylvania. He has deployed to every combatant commander theater of operations.

    Perry commanded the Pennsylvania and later, Submarine Development Squadron 12 in Groton.
