Norwich — The seven Norwich police officers who were placed on administrative leave after they shot and killed a man who allegedly pointed a gun at them on Feb. 24 have returned to work.
They returned to work on different dates, and the investigation is continuing under the direction of the New London County State's Attorney's Office, Norwich police Capt. Patrick Daley said Saturday night.
Michael Dugas, 52, died of multiple gunshot wounds. Norwich police said they were called to the neighborhood park in the area of Laurel Hill Avenue and Center Street for a report of a man with a gun.
Police said they attempted to communicate with Dugas for an unspecified period of time. Dugas suddenly drew a handgun from his pocket and pointed it at them, police said. Police said they were forced to defend themselves and shoot.
Officers Mark Dean, Kyle Besse, Greg McDonald, Scott Meikle, Anthony Marceau, Richard Cannata and Chase Chiangi were placed on leave while state police investigated the shooting.
