Uncas Health District
The Uncas Health District has a new logo that will be used on all written material, signage, vehicles and uniforms.
The logo, which also will be integrated into a revamped website, will provide a consistent branding message for the 25-year-old health district, which covers a 98-square-mile region encompassing Bozrah, Griswold, Lisbon, Montville, Norwich, Sprague and Voluntown.
"We want people to know who we are when we come to their door," said Patrick R. McCormack, director of health for the district, in a phone interview. "Consistent branding can help the safety and security of both our consumers and staff."
McCormack added that the health district is also working on rolling out a consistent message so that consumers in the various towns it covers know where to turn for help. Too many people, he said, associated the health district with Uncasville, which is a village of Montville, or with one of the local Indian tribes.
The Uncas Health District is actually a nonprofit funded by municipal and state monies as well as through licensures and fees. It conducts health inspections, reviews conditions at food establishments, oversees vaccinations, provides public health nurses and offers educational services.
The health district, which employs 13 people, recently added Facebook and Twitter accounts to its outreach efforts and plans to add newsletters and beef up its annual report.
"We're generally the first step for people, especially people that are going to open a food establishment," McCormack said.
The health district's new logo, a contemporary design using royal blue and turquoise coloring, was created as part of an ongoing strategic-planning effort. Branding is being done with the help of Norwich-based marketing firm Miranda Creative.
