Norwich – Faced with a loss of funding at a time when the Harbor Management Commission wants to step up promotions of the city waterfront, the commission will hold its first fundraising event April 26 at the Moose Lodge in Bozrah.
The Chelsea Harbor Arts & Recreation Gala is designed to raise both awareness of the harbor and its fishing and recreational assets, and to raise funds for harbor projects and programs. The commission’s kick-off project is the purchase of a live harbor camera to post images on the city website, www.norwichct.org.
The event will feature a buffet dinner, silent auction, raffles, music by Melaena and other local groups and dancing.
Tickets are $40 per person. For information and to purchase tickets, go to http://chelseaharborgala.eventbrite.com.
Anyone wishing to donate auction items should contact Harbor Management Commission member Charles Jaskiewicz at cjaskiewicz@msn.com.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who unsucessfully took on super-sized sodas, has proposed a law that would require stores to keep cigarettes behind a curtain or otherwise out of view. What do you think of his latest public-health inititative?
