New London — Two sergeants from the New London Police Department were promoted to lieutenant Thursday during a swearing-in ceremony at City Council Chambers.
Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio announced the promotions of Sgt. George Potts and Sgt. Lawrence Keating Jr. on Monday.
Potts, of New London, joined the department in 1990. He was named Officer of the Year in 2003 and was promoted to sergeant in 2003. In his time in New London, he has received 16 letters of commendation, 11 letters of appreciation and 13 letters of acknowledgments.
Keating has been with the department since 1995. He was a D.A.R.E. officer in 2003 and was promoted to sergeant in 2008. Keating has received three letters of commendation, three letters of appreciation and six letters of acknowledgments.
