H.S. baseball roundup: Porter pitches no-hitter for Fitch

Groton - David Porter pitched a no-hitter in Fitch High School's home-opening baseball game Thursday night, as the Falcons topped Hall of West Hartford 4-1.

Porter, a junior whose only start last year was a loss in the Eastern Connecticut Conference championship game, struck out 12, walked three and hit a batter.

"He got himself into trouble, we made an error, he was a little uneasy. His first start, his first home game," Fitch coach Marc Peluso said. "We got him calmed down and he just went to work. He pitched phenomenally for us."

Tristan Hurley had a single, double and two runs and Aaron Hill a double, RBI and a run for Fitch (1-1).

In other games:

• Jeremy Santos hit a game-winning, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give New London its 4-3 come-from-behind win over Stamford.

Gabriel Diaz (two hits) singled to lead off the inning, stole second and was sacrificed to third. Isaias Cruz followed with a walk, stole second, and he and Diaz scored on Santos' single.

Josh Vincent pitched a seven-hitter with seven strikeouts and one earned run for New London (2-0). Santos had two hits.

Chris Pietro had two hits and two RBI for the Black Knights.

• Adam Rigney went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in East Lyme's season-opening 8-6 win over RHAM.

Hunter Waido and Connor Elliott had two RBI apiece and Jordan Bartlett pitched 5 2/3 innings to earn the win.

• Montville scored five runs in the first inning and went on to beat Woodstock 12-2. Nick Clemons had three doubles and an RBI and winning pitcher Jeff Robbins had two doubles and an RBI to fuel an 11-hit attack. Buddy Dewaine added two hits and two RBI for the Indians (2-0).

• Nate Storey pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and helped himself with two hits, two RBI and a run as Wheeler opened its season with a 7-1 win over Parish Hill.

Mike Dellaporta had two hits, including a double, with two RBI and a run for the Lions while Troy Stefanski had three hits, including a double, and scored twice. Also, Asa Palmer had two hits, including a triple, with a run and an RBI.
