Norwich — Organizers of the Podunk Bluegrass Festival announced Saturday on its Facebook page that it is canceling the festival because it could not find a venue.
Last year, the festival was held at Dodd Stadium and hoped that it could return this year. The Connecticut Tigers, however, are scheduled to play at home during the first weekend of August, when the festival is usually held.
Festivals organizers had considered multiple sites including the Kelly Middle School in Norwich, but the venues either lacked camp space or were far too expensive.
"After months of effort, the board has not found a clear, long-lasting solution for Podunk's home. In order to provide artists enough time to make alternate plans, the board believes it necessary to cancel the festival at this time for 2013, and devote our time and effort to the 2014 festival," the Facebook page said.
Those who purchased tickets in advance can convert ticket cost into a tax-free donation or get a refund by sending a letter to Podunk, 80 Brandegee Lane, Berlin, Conn. 06037 or an e-mail to email@example.com.
