A note of appreciation is due David Collins for his April 17 column, "Apartment project at Fort Trumbull: Will it happen?" concerning the great mystery of Fort Trumbull apartments. Indeed those involved in this venture, particularly New London Mayor Finizio, owe the public a full disclosure of its status.

While dismayed by the lack of transparency in this matter, area taxpayers should hardly be surprised. I recall just a few short years ago such a story was reported under the title, "Hospital property/Utopia/Preston." Does anyone remember that fiasco?

The philosopher George Santayana nailed it when he warned; "A civilization which does not learn from the errors of history is destined to repeat those errors."
