Flamenco fusion with Sam Lardner and Barcelona

At left, Sam Lardner, seated, and Barcelona

Sam Lardner and his group Barcelona have been firing up audiences with flamenco fusion for a decade.

Lardner has lived for a long time in Spain - but actually grew up in Essex. He's returning to the region for a Sunday concert at Saint Ann's Episcopal Church in Old Lyme, as part of that church's ongoing music series.

In addition to Lardner (who, by the way, used to teach Russian and Spanish at the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn.), the group features guitarist Annabel Villalonga, percussionist Juan Flores, and vocalists Sandra Sangiao and Nuna Garcia. They have played all over Europe and America.

At Sunday's concert, a free-will offering will be collected, with Lardner donating a portion of that to Saint Ann's. The members of Sam Lardner and Barcelona will mingle with people at a post-concert reception.
